Alexander Tansman 4th International Competition of Musical Personalities, Łódź 2002
Before József Balog won the 2002 Tansman Competition, he had already been laureate of piano competitions. In 1999 he won two Chopin competitions in Budapest and Debrecen, then in 2001 he won the Bartok-Liszt Competition in Budapest.
Our laureate has been developing ever since. In 2004 he won the Second Prize at the International Brahms Competition in Pörtschach; in 2005 the Journalists' Prize at the International Piano Competition in Utrecht; in 2007 he won the International Liszt Competition in Pecs. In 2008 József was awarded the Second Prize at the Carlo Soliva International Piano Competition in Casale Monferrato.
The pianist has performed at the prestigious concert halls of Europe, America and Asia: Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Chan Centre in Vancouver, Kensington Palace (attended by Prince Charles), Equinoxe in Chateauroux, Konzerthaus in Vienna, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg etc. After 2002 he was invited as a star of such festivals as Tiszadob (2003), Lisztomanias in Chateauroux (2005), Schubertiade in Roskilde (2006), Spring Festival in Russia (2006), Lago Maggiore Festival in Italy (2006) or Winter Festival in Sarajevo (2007).
Ever since 2003 József has been recording prize-winning CDs and making recordings for the BBC or the Danish TV (2005). Since 2003 he has been lecturing at the Ferenc Liszt University of Music in Budapest.

A year only has passed since the victory of the last laureate of the Tansman Grand Prix and we are looking forward to further development of his career. That same year 2008 Julien Hervé won a competition to join the Rotterdam Orchestra where he performs as a soloist.
He has won a number of prestigious prizes for chamber music recordings and for performing with his Capriccioso ensemble: Révélation Classique de l'ADAMI (2005), Premiers Prix de Clarinette et de Musique de Chambre du C.N.S.M. de Paris (2006) and the Grand Prix of the International Chamber Music Festival in Kraków (2006).
In 2007 Julien won the 3rd Prize at the International Clarinet Competition in Tokyo and was elected the Discovery of the Year in the Victoires de la Musique Competition.
Founder of the "Intermèdes” Association composed of performing musicians, graduates of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, who perform together at places where music is usually absent, such as hospices and hospitals. "Intermèdes” have been performing as soloists, chamber ensembles and an orchestra.

Gergelly Ittzés (1969), flute

Already in the 1980s Gergelly Ittzés was winning international flute competitions such as the one in Rome (1987), Duino (1988) or Szeged (1992).
Since 1998 he has been invited as a star to international festivals, e.g. to Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna, Bratislava, Belgrad, Beijing, Atlanta, Pittsburg, and recently (2009) to the famous Carnegie Hall.
Gergelly's passion is chamber music. In 1999-2008 he recorded tens of CDs both in Europe and the USA, premiering many works, including his own compositions. In 2003 the Hungarian Authors' Association „Artisjus” awarded him a special prize for his achievement in music recording. Gergelly has been regularly performing worldwide as a chamber musician with the UMZE ensemble.
It is enough to look at the works composed especially for him or dedicated to him by world-famous composers to realise his mastery. In 2005 at the Budapest Spring Festival he performed a world premiere of Anthony Newman's Flute Concerto.
In 2007 Gergelly became a Ph.D. and has been lecturing at the Széchenyi University in Győr. He has been teaching innovatory flute techniques and new possibilities of this instrument in Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, Brasil, USA, Canada and China.

Kryštof Mařatka (1972), composer

Kryštof is one of the most outstanding young composers in Europe. Many institutions have commissioned his works, e.g. the Government of Norway (2002), the National Opera in Prague (2004) or, after he won the Tansman Competition, the Présences Festival of Radio France (2007).
After 2006 he won the Grand Prix of the Spring Festival in Shanghaj, the Pierre Cardin Prize awarded by the FrenchAcademy of Fine Arts and the Hervé Dugardin Prize of the SACEM (French Authors' Association).
In 2007 the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Centre in Lusławice chose Kryštof as one of 15 European composers to work in the framework of their educational projects in 2007-2010. That same year 2007 the MEZZO channel made a film about Kryštof, while a year later the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris invited him for a series of concerts and classes "Journée Krystof Maratka” with the participation of the academy ensembles and its lecturers and students.
Diverse inspirations from prehistoric times or from Far and Middle East meet with European composing methods and contemporary art in Kryštof's output, which comprises of chamber, symphonic and choral works. They have been performed at the famous concert halls worldwide, in Prague, Berlin, Paris, Denver or New York, and published by the prestigious Editions JOBERT in Paris.

Dominik Połoński (1977), cello

Dominik is one of the most renowned young performing musicians. In 1998 he won the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Competition, in 1999 the Second Prize at the Witold Lutosławski International Cello Competition in Warsaw. That same year in June he was invited to the Gregor Piatigorski Seminar in Los Angeles.
Having won the Tansman Competition, Dominik left for Spain for a scholarship at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid (2000/2001) and his career was soaring. In 2002 he won the International Europhony Competition in Bucarest, broadcast to 4 million listeners throughout Europe. A year later he was awarded the Polityka Passport for his "individual style and a consistent development of artistic personality.”
Dominik performed in Italy, France, Spain, Russia, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Austria and the USA. He was accompanied by the majority of Polish symphonic orchestras as well as with Lorin Maazel, Krystian Zimerman, Gary Karr and others. He was a soloist of the Krystian Zimerman Polish Festival Orchestra.
In 2004 he developed a serious illness, which forced him to take a break in his career. He made a great comeback in 2009 with a premiere of Cello Concerto written for him by Olga Hans. He was accompanied by the Polish Radio Orchestra conducted by Łukasz Borowicz in Warsaw.
Dominik has recorded numerous CDs and has been lecturing at the Academy of Music in Łódź.
